I was very brave last night. I went and played the fiddle at a folk session. I didn't expect to be able to play any of the tunes, but found to my surprise that I could pick up more than I thought.
Towards the end of the evening, I chatted to the fiddle player who led the session.
"I used to go to the Six Bells, but there were too many singers there," she said. "I don't mind one or two songs - they're useful when you want to have a rest or go to the loo."
I have gone through the world in the mistaken belief that everyone loves a good song.
