Following the purchase of some new shoes that don't fit, James is in a sad and reflective mood:

"I can't bear to think about the money I wasted on those shoes."

"Yes," I warned, "You should look before you leap - especially into shoes."

"Ah," he countered, "but sometimes you can't look until you've leapt - especially into shoes."
